CALAF INDUSTRIAL has designed a new solution for extracting glass from municipal solid waste (MSW) based on the technological innovation of artificial vision equipment.
Such equipment automatically identifies and sorts glass from different flows of treated waste in mixed waste plants, organic waste and incineration slags.
Currently, the company has manufactured a first prototype that is in the testing phase. The results of the equipment are encouraging as glass extraction yields of more than 75% of the glass contained in the incoming flow are being obtained.
The project "Development of a technology for the automated recovery of glass for municipal solid waste treatment plants (MSW) -Vidrebuig" was carried out with the support of ACCIÓ in the framework of the Operational Program FEDER Catalunya 2014-2020.
During the validation phase of the technological solution, the company intends to generalize the application to all types of waste susceptible to contain glass. In addition, the VIDREBUIG solution will provide tools to increase the collection of other recyclable materials and Refuse-derived fuel from waste (RDF), as well as the reduction of reject materials generated in waste treatment plants.
