The REBORN project has been developed by a consortium of six companies led by FERROVIAL Servicios and supported by the LEITAT technological centre. In this consortium, FERROVIAL and CALAF INDUSTRIAL have been in charge of the sorting and conditioning of plastics waste, CROMOGENIA has developed compatible agents for GALLOPLAST to process the recycled materials which are to be used by CONTENUR as manufacturer of waste containers, and FIGUERAS as manufacturer of urban furniture.

The work carried out by CALAF INDUSTRIAL has focused on the development of a new optical sorter for the recovery of polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic packaging issued from municipal solid waste (MSW). The CALAF optical sorter is aimed at increasing the capacity of identification by machine-vision of plastic materials that are considered as rejects or as part of mixed streams at material recovery facilities (MRFs).

This project has been supported by the Centro de Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI) of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness of the Government of Spain.
